CPSO DEPUTIES ISSUE TURKEYS INSTEAD OF TICKETS

Lake Charles, LA –

Earlier today Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies handed out turkeys instead of tickets prior to Thanksgiving.  Deputies handed out the turkeys to citizens throughout the parish who committed minor traffic violations, such as no seatbelt or speeding.

“We are grateful to the Shaheen family for their continued generosity and commitment to this tradition,” stated Calcasieu Sheriff Stitch Guillory.  “The donation of 100 turkeys allows our deputies to help spread joy and make a positive impact with those in our community for the Thanksgiving season.  This is a great opportunity for CPSO deputies to connect with our citizens in an unexpected way, turning what might be a stressful and disappointing moment into one of gratitude and kindness.  Our deputies really enjoy seeing the look of surprise and excitement on someone’s face when they realize they are getting a turkey instead of a ticket.”

The turkeys were donated to CPSO by Caran Shaheen and her family, owner of the 5 Star Convenience Stores.
