CPSO INVESTIGATING POSSIBLE HIT & RUN FATALITY

Lake Charles, LA –

 

Earlier this afternoon, at approximately 2:00 p.m. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 2600 block of Miller Avenue, near Smith Ferry Road, in Westlake in reference to a person in the ditch.

           

When deputies arrived they found a man, unresponsive in the ditch.  After the preliminary investigation, due to injuries observed on the victim, detectives believe this incident to be a possible hit and run. 

           

The investigation is in the early stages and more information will be released once it becomes available.  The coroner will determine cause of death.  The victim has been identified as Michael D. Welch, 41, Westlake.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged.   A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
