CPSO INVESTIGATING FATALITY

Lake Charles, LA –

Earlier this morning, October 23, at approximately 7:00 a.m. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 3100 block of North Perkins Ferry Road in Moss Bluff in reference to a two vehicle accident.

The preliminary investigation revealed a Chevy pickup truck turned left onto N. Perkins Ferry Road from Trisha Court, heading southbound, when it was struck from behind by a Dodge pickup truck that was also traveling southbound on N. Perkins Ferry Road.  The immediate impact of the crash caused both trucks to travel off the roadway.

The driver of the Chevy, Jose Martinez, 34, Lake Charles, who was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene.  A passenger in the Chevy was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

Impairment is not suspected and deputies believe fog is the main factor contributing to the crash.  The investigation is continuing and the coroner will determine cause of death.

CPSO Sr. Cpl. Travis Carroll is the lead investigator on this crash.
