CPSO INVESTIGATING SHOOTING

Lake Charles, LA –

 

Update: Earlier this afternoon after further investigation detectives issued a warrant for Laiyn D. Pete, 22, Lake Charles, for the shooting.  Judge Tony Fazzio signed the warrant in the amount of $212,500.  At approximately 3:00 p.m. Pete turned himself in to the CPSO Warrants Division and was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with illegal use of a dangerous weapon; and violation of a firearm free zone.

Yesterday evening, August 26, at approximately 4:30 p.m. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to an apartment complex on Winterhalter Street in Lake Charles after receiving a call in reference to possible shots fired. While deputies were on scene, it was learned the Lake Charles Police Department received a call from a local hospital in reference to a victim with a gunshot wound.

 

During the initial investigation, detectives received information that the shooting may be linked to an earlier altercation between the same individuals involved. Detectives are currently continuing their investigation, examining evidence and interviewing witnesses. No arrests have been made at this time.

 

The victim was later released from the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
