CPSO ARRESTS 3 AFTER PURSUIT

Lake Charles, LA –

 

Earlier this morning, at approximately 4:30 a.m. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were alerted in reference to a stolen car out of Port Arthur, Texas that traveling in the Sulphur area. 

 

Deputies observed the car near the area of E. Napoleon Street and Willow Street in Sulphur and attempted to conduct a stop on the car.  The driver refused to stop leading deputies on a brief pursuit.  The driver continued to flee ultimately stopping at the dead-end of Barney Hoffpauir Road.  The driver and two passengers exited the car and fled on foot into the wooded area nearby.  CPSO Deputies immediately set up a perimeter and a CPSO K9 was deployed.  Shortly after 6:00 a.m., deputies located two of the suspects, a 16 year old juvenile; and Droman T. Baltazar, 18, both of Texas.  Later in the morning the third suspect, Quindarius Moore, 18, Texas, turned himself in to CPSO.      

 

 During the investigation, detectives located 2 guns inside the stolen car, as well as property belonging to individuals in the Sulphur and Lake Charles area.  Further investigation revealed both guns had been stolen and the property located inside the car was from multiple vehicle burglaries that occurred earlier the same morning.

 

Baltazar and Moore were arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center.  The 16 year old was taken to a local hospital for injuries he sustained during his apprehension.  He was later released and booked into the Juvenile Detention Center.  They are all charged with illegal possession of stolen things less than $1,000; illegal possession of stolen things $5,000 - $25,000; aggravated flight from an officer; resisting an officer by flight; and 2 counts of illegal possession of stolen firearms.  Baltazar is additionally charged with possession of marijuana.  Their bonds have not yet been set.  

           

The investigations are ongoing and more charges are expected.  CPSO Detective Allen Cormier is the lead investigator on these cases. 

 

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged.   A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
