Earlier this morning at approximately 6:30 a.m. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a single vehicle accident at the intersection of Gill Drive and Koonce Road in Sulphur.
The initial investigation revealed an SUV was traveling westbound on Koonce Road at which time, for unknown reasons, the SUV left the roadway near Gill Drive. The SUV struck a tree and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fatality is still under investigation. As mandated by state law a toxicology report will be conducted. The release of the identity of the driver is pending next of kin notification.
