Lake Charles, LA –
On January 1, at approximately 4:30 a.m. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were notified of a woman being seen at a local hospital with severe injuries.
During the initial investigation, deputies were advised by the woman that her boyfriend, Derik K. Rayborn, 47, Lake Charles, killed her son and their dog at their residence off Highway 90 E. in Lake Charles. She further stated she was able to escape the home and seek medical attention.
When deputies arrived at the home, they located Eric Bosley, 26, Lake Charles, along with the dog, deceased inside the residence from what appears to be apparent gunshot wounds. Through further investigation detectives also learned Rayborn caused the woman’s injuries.
A short time later, deputies located Rayborn at the hospital, while he was attempting to locate the woman. Rayborn was questioned by detectives and then arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. He is charged with 2nd degree murder; attempted 2nd degree murder; domestic abuse serious bodily injury; aggravated cruelty to animals; interfering with emergency communication; possession or carrying of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies; and illegal use of a weapon during a crime of violence. Judge Clayton Davis set his bond at $2,375,000.
The woman remains in the hospital with serious injuries.
The investigation is ongoing, the coroner will determine cause of death.
