CPSO UPGRADES CHARGES FOR MAN INVOLVED IN SHOOTING

Lake Charles, LA –

 

On Sunday, February 26, at approximately 3:00 p.m. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a residence on Highway 3059 in Lake Charles in reference to a shooting.  Upon arrival, deputies located the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.  The victim was transported to a local hospital for further treatment. 

 

Deputies learned Ruben Acosta-Camacho, 45, Lake Charles, was responsible for the shooting.  After he was located he was transported to CPSO for questioning, where he confirmed to detectives he shot the victim.  He was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with attempted 2nd degree murder. 

           

On Saturday, March 4, CPSO detectives learned the victim, Arturo Acosta, 36, who was a family member of Acosta-Camacho, died from injuries he sustained from the shooting.  Detectives upgraded Acosta-Camacho’s charges from attempted 2nd degree murder to 2nd degree murder; and illegal use of a weapon during a crime of violence.  Judge Tony Fazzio set his bond at $690,000.
