Lake Charles –
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office is participating in the national crackdown on drunk driving with grant funding from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. The campaign, which starts Saturday, December 18, and ends January 1, ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,’ is a partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to curb impaired driving and save lives.
“According to the NHTSA in 2019 there were over 10,000 people killed in preventable drunk driving related crashes in the United States. In Louisiana 30% of traffic fatalities were due to impaired driving. Being a responsible driver is simple, if you are drinking do not drive. By joining this nationwide effort, we will make Calcasieu Parish roadways safer for everyone,” said Calcasieu Sheriff Tony Mancuso.
