CPSO ARRESTS WOMAN FOR PRINCIPAL TO 1ST DEGREE RAPE

Lake Charles, LA –

On August 13 the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested registered sex offender, Jeremy K. Laird, 41, Lake Charles, who was convicted of carnal knowledge of juvenile in 1999, after an investigation revealed he had inappropriate sexual contact with a 14 year old girl.  During the investigation the victim advised detectives the incident happened on two separate occasions in 2017.  He was arrested and booked in the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with 1st degree rape; and sexual battery.  Judge David Ritchie set his bond at $200,000.

After further investigation detectives were advised by the victim that Sarah J. Laird, 35, Westlake, who was Jeremy’s girlfriend at the time of the incidents, was told about the inappropriate sexual contact.  Detectives then learned Sarah did not report the incidents to law enforcement.  An investigation was conducted by detectives and turned over to the District Attorney’s Office.

On October 4 Jeremy and Sarah were indicted by a Calcasieu Parish Grand Jury.  A warrant was issued for Sarah’s arrest and later the same day she was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with principal to 1st degree rape.  Judge Michael Canaday set her bond at $300,000.
