CPSO ARRESTS MAN FOR FAILURE TO REGISTER AS SEX OFFENDER

Lake Charles –

On January 18 at approximately 11:20 a.m. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a stop on a car near the intersection of Arkansas Street and Circle Street in Lake Charles for a traffic violation.

Deputies made contact with the driver, Eric L. Martinez, 35, 3707 Brentwood Ave., Lake Charles, and requested his identification, at which time Martinez advised he did not have any ID on his person, but provided deputies with documentation showing he was a convicted sex offender.   Deputies learned Martinez did not possess a sex offender ID Card which is required by law for all registered sex offenders.  Deputies also learned Martinez was in control of a vehicle that was not registered with law enforcement, making him in violation of his sex offender registration requirements.

Martinez was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with failure to register as a sex offender; failure to comply with sex offender identification requirements; and failure to stop.  Judge Guy Bradberry set his bond at $35,500.

Martinez was convicted of immoral or indecent acts in Wyoming in 2004; and violation of sex offender registration in Arizona in 2013.

CPSO Sr. Cpl. Matthew Saxby and Deputy Britt Poindexter are the arresting deputies on this case.
