Lake Charles –
On March 4 Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a home in DeQuincy after receiving a call regarding personal checks that had been stolen.
Upon arrival the 81 year old victim advised deputies that a family member, Chad E. Jones, 24, DeQuincy, had been living at her home for several months and she believed he removed two blank checks from her checkbook. Deputies located Jones inside the home and patted him down for safety. While deputies were conducting their pat down they located methamphetamine as well as drug paraphernalia in Jones’ pants pocket. Deputies also located one of the stolen checks in Jones’ wallet. During further investigation deputies learned Jones had taken the other missing check and made it payable to himself and forged the victim’s signature on the check. Jones was able to cash the check in the amount of $250 at a local bank.
When detectives spoke with Jones he stated he stole the checks because he needed the money to get something out of a pawn shop. Jones also told detectives he felt bad after cashing the first check and that is why he had not cashed the second one. Jones was arrested and booked in the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with forgery; theft under $750; possession of CDS II; and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond is still pending.
CPSO Detective Greg Jordan is the lead investigator in this case.
