Lake Charles –
Yesterday, October 1 around 8:00 p.m. the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 8200 block of Big Lake Road in reference to a possible drowning. When deputies arrived they discovered Sheffield Royer, 84, Lake Charles, unresponsive in some water near the roadway which was a tributary of Black Bayou. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Further investigation revealed that Royer had been cast netting alone and he did not return home when expected, at which time family members began searching for him.
Foul play is not suspected at this time. The drowning appears to be accidental but the investigation is continuing pending the Calcasieu Coroner’s examination.
CPSO Detective Beth McGee is the lead investigator on this case.
