 Lake Charles –

When the deputy approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver, Christopher J. Meaux, 29, 4222 Ridgecrest, Sulphur, he advised the deputy he had been drinking alcoholic beverages.

Meaux was very unstable and unable to complete standard field sobriety testing. Meaux submitted to a breath intoxilyzer test, which concluded he was over the legal limit. Meaux, who has two prior DWI arrests, was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with DWI 3rd; no headlights; and driving left of center. He was released on a $3,000 bond set by Judge Robert Wyatt.

On July 18, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle crash near the intersection of East McNeese Street and Highway 397 in Lake Charles.

Upon arrival several witnesses advised deputies the vehicle ran the stop sign at a high rate of speed and ran off the road. The witnesses also told deputies after the crash four juveniles exited the vehicle and stated that the driver had been drinking. When the deputy spoke with the driver, Gregory J. Miller Jr., 35, Eunice, he detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath along with an unsteady balance. Miller first told the deputy that he had not consumed any alcoholic beverages, but when he spoke with EMTs on scene he stated he consumed one 24 ounce beer approximately one hour prior to the crash. Miller later told the deputy he consumed the 24 ounce beer approximately two hours prior to the crash. Deputies observed a trail of several empty 16 ounce beer cans leading from where the vehicle left the roadway to where the vehicle came to a stop, and several empty 16 ounce beer cans in the bed of Miller’s truck.

After performing poorly on the standard field sobriety test, Miller, who has two prior DWI arrests, refused to submit a breath intoxilyzer test. He was arrested and charged with DWI 3rd with child endangerment; failure to stop at a stop sign; and carless operation. Miller was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. He was released on a $28,000 bond set by Judge Robert Wyatt.
